PEP is the Parent-Educator-Pupil organization at Central High School. We invite all parents to become involved through PEP with their student’s high school experience.

We know you all are busy. And you may think your kids don’t want you involved. But the benefits of parental involvement do continue throughout the high school years! Involvement in PEP means that you can keep up-to-date with what’s going on at school. Parents can also get acquainted with other students and teachers who have a daily influence on their children. Bonds of friendship strengthen over the four years of high school, and shared experiences create lifetime memories.

Volunteer assistance is welcome, needed and most appreciated! Whether you decide to take a major or minor role with the organization is up to you. Perhaps you just want to come to the monthly PEP meetings to become informed, meet other parents, or talk to administrators. That’s great! Or, if you would like to take a more active role and volunteer to assist with the many activities for which PEP is responsible, that would be great, too.

What does PEP do?

  1. PEP supports and organizes many school activities and programs. Please consider helping out with any of the following:
    • Open House: Welcome parents to CHS with a Sloppy Joe Feed on Sept. 17, 2008 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
    • Merchandise Sales: Help sell PEP merchandise at special events.
    • Holiday Tea for Central High Staff: Help create a special afternoon for CHS staff on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2008.
    • Parent Teacher Conferences: Provide snacks for staff to enjoy during conferences Nov. 6, 2008 and March 12, 2009.
    • Recruitment Open House: Welcome potential students & parents to Central. PEP provides refreshments and helps with a parent panel on Jan. 10, 2009 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
    • CHS Staff Appreciation Week: During March 2-6, 2009, help express our thanks to teachers & staff with food & treats & more. Donations appreciated!
    • Purple Feather Day: Celebrate & honor the achievement of Honor Roll students with this surprise event.
    • National Honor Society Reception: Work with CHS staff to plan a reception following the ceremony. Date TBD.
    • Post Prom: Keep our kids safe by providing a fun & memorable event April 18th, 2009.
    • Senior Recognition Day: This reception honors high scholastic achievement & announces scholarships. Date TBD.
    • Sports Banquets: Be a greeter and/or assist with serving food & beverages to athletes & families. Banquets are held during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Click here for more information.
    • Rock the Nest: Assist with this new event to raise funds for CHS (late spring)
    • Intermission Refreshments: Organize and sell goodies after school drama productions and the talent show. Click here for contact information.
    • Food Coordinator: Don’t mind making calls? This volunteer job is perfect – all you do is call others who have agreed to donate food to CHS / PEP events. PEP gives you the list!
    • Donate food: Bake or provide food for the various events throughout the year. Bring to location when asked.
    • And much more!
You can download a copy of the membership form, indicate which activities you are interested in and mail it in. Or, you can call or email us.

  2. PEP hosts monthly meetings held at Central High School in room 145, at 7 PM. The meetings are on the second Monday of each month, September through May (except December). These meetings include reports from Mr. Emmel, CHS Principal, teachers, and PEP Committee updates. We also plan to have community and student speakers this year, including OPS Superintendent, Dr. Mackiel on Monday Oct. 13, 2008. The meetings provide an opportunity to get the latest news on what is going on at Central, and also are a good time to come and meet other parents, as well to talk informally with CHS administrators.

  3. We raise funds for the activities listed above and for our operating budget primarily through PEP Membership dues, but also through the sale of special CHS logo merchandise, available at the school store and at several school events (e.g. Open House).

PEP also is joining forces with the CHS Foundation and the other parent groups supporting Central to host the second annual “Rock the Nest” fundraiser in the spring, 2009. More information will be posted as the event develops.

Please contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to volunteering with you!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: “If I turn in my form, will someone be calling me all the time to volunteer?” A: NO. We will call you if you have checked one of the boxes (and we hope you do!) PEP needs help in many ways. If there’s something else you would like to do to volunteer or help out, just let us know!

Q: “I already wrote a check to Band Parents / VOICE / French Club/ Etc. Is that the same as PEP membership?” A: No. Each group has its own volunteer leadership and its own budget and expenses. PEP has its own goals and achievements. We appreciate your support and so do all the other groups.

Q: “Why do I write my check to the CHS Foundation?” A: Because the Foundation has tax exempt status as a non-profit organization, your contribution is tax-deductible.

THANK YOU!
